Department achievements and highlights

 Art (AEP)

SG 50 Façade Art with Lam Soon CC - This project involved our Sec 1 to 3 AEP students. They worked with the artists to create the façade art for Block 340 (opposite LOT 1 Shopping Centre) to celebrate our nation’s 50th birthday. In the two days of work, the students collaborated with teachers and residents of Choa Chu Kang to create the big scale artwork.

NEA Hawker Center Mural Art - the Art Club was involved in the SG50 mural art project. They decorated 2 pillars at the entrance of a hawker centre with ceramic tiles based on the theme SG50. The whole project was conceptualized over a 1 year period from design proposal to the execution of design and eventual installation of the ceramic pieces on site in June 2015.

Master Class by American artist James Surls for AEP students - World renowned American artist Mr James Surls was in town on 14 August for the official opening of his sculpture, ‘Fifty Wings’. BPGHS had the honour of inviting him to conduct a masterclass for our AEP students amidst his very tight schedule. He shared about his life, works and inspirations during the masterclass. Our students have benefitted greatly from his class.

Design & Technology

‘Keychain design by Lau Jia Yi and Lim Yun Jin emerged champion in design competition by RP

To celebrate the nation’s 50th birthday, Republic Polytechnic organized a competition for secondary schools students to showcase their creativity. Their final products which comprised of keychains, pens, pen holders were digitally printed and posted on Instagram for voting.

Our students’ design was inspired by combining the various symbolic signs of Singapore.  The lion's head represents hope, courage and a better future for the country. The manes outline the cohesiveness of the nation, as well as living in secured and harmonious environment.  The skyline symbolizes better future for the country and its nation. The five stars in the formation of a crescent show our young and energetic nation filled with passion, liberty, enthusiasm, impartiality and peace.
