Chinese Orchestra

BPCO was established in 1993, and it has matured in various aspects since its inception. What started out as pluck-string ensemble grew to become a full orchestra in 1999. Among the numerous performances that the orchestra has put up, BPCO has played live music in BPGHS’s Chinese Opera public performance “Romance of the Cyprinus Carpio”, “Beauty and the Beast” musical, participated in diverse performances, including joint performances with Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra, BPGHS’s Gamelan troupe etc in front of foreign officials, ministers, educators and MOE officials.

New intakes of student performers have to undergo a musical audition before they are identified to play specific instruments in the Chinese Orchestra. Student performers with leadership qualities are also identified to take up positions of Sectional Leaders, Executive Committee members, Vice-Chairperson and Chairperson in which they assist the teachers-in charge in the administration and operation of the CCA. The Bpian Chinese Orchestra also recruits PSLE students with prior experience, knowledge and talent in the playing of CO musical instruments under the Direct Schools Admission Programme. Most importantly, our current student performers with a musical flair are selected to participate in the annual Chinese Orchestra Music Camp organized by MOE CCAB.
