Direct School Admission Exercise – Admission to Secondary 1 in 2022

If you are a Primary Six pupil, you can be considered for direct admission if you are exceptionally talented in the following:

  • Sports and Games: Basketball (Boy), Netball (Girl), Volleyball (Boy & Girl)
  • Performing Arts: Concert Band (Boy/Girl) , Chinese Orchestra (Boy/Girl)
  • Language and Humanities: Malay Language

(I) Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria under the respective talent area:

1.            Basketball (Boy), Netball (Girl), Volleyball (Boy & Girl)

  • Member of Basketball, Netball or Volleyball CCA for at least 2 years.
  • Student of Junior Sports Academy (JSA) programme preferred.
  • Relevant training and game experiences preferred.

2.            Concert Band (Boy/Girl)

Meet at least one of the following:

  • Member of Band for at least 2 years.
  • Minimum of 2 years playing experience in woodwind, brass or percussion instrument.

3.            Chinese Orchestra (Boy/Girl)

Meet at least one of the following:

  • Demonstrate strong talent and interest in Chinese Orchestra.
  • Minimum of 2 years playing experience in Chinese Orchestra.

4.            Malay Language                    

  • Achieved consistently good academic results in Malay Language.
  • Active participation in activities related to the use of Malay Language.

(II) Selection Process:

1. Selection will be based on how well the applicant meets the entry criteria. Proofs of applicant’s areas of strength and achievements are essential.  

2. In view of the COVID-19 situation, to ensure the safety of the DSA applicants, the school will conduct selection using electronic mode and applicants need not visit our school in person.

3. Applicants for Malay Language are required to do an additional submission to facilitate the process of shortlisting

Applicants for Volleyball and Basketball are also welcomed to do additional submission if they wish to.

Video footages (optional)

·         You may submit up to 3 video footages that demonstrate your best performance. The combined viewing time should be less than 10 minutes in total.

·         The video footage could be clips/ snippets of you in action from CCA training sessions, National School Games and/or other established competitions taken in 2020 (before suspension) or 2021 (semester 1).

·         There is no need to produce any new video for submission.

·         If the video is available online (eg Google Drive, Youtube), please provide the URL of it.

·         Please provide the relevant timecode and your jersey colour and number (where applicable) so that we can identify the correct person to observe.

4. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a video conference which comprises an interview (not longer than 30 minutes), and some performance tasks (except Malay Language) to showcase some critical skills. Candidates who submitted video footages may also be requested to do so if these skills are not observable from the recordings. The details are as follows:

Talent Area

Performance Tasks



  • Requires  1 basketball

    Task 1: Shuttle run across the width of the basketball court 

    Task 2 :  Dribble back and forth with master hand only across width of     the basketball court

    Task 3:  Shooting at free throw line (3 times) 


    Task 1: 5 Jumping jacks then sprint to a line and sprint back after a             quick body turn. The distance is 10m (roughly 1/3 of Netball court).

    Task 2: Take a few steps to jump highest point. As you jump, aim for         the ceiling/ net or something high.

    Task 3: Fast passes with jump and landing (catch and throw chest and         shoulder pass, about 20 times) 


  • Requires 1 volleyball

    Task 1: Vertical jump

    Task 2: 4X 6m shuttle run using the volleyball court marking from 3m         line to baseline.

    Task 3: Underhand pass (self-toss). Stand 1-2m away from the wall or a     receiver (about 20 times). 

Marching & Concert Band

  • Perform 2 contrasting pieces of choice on the instrument.
  • May play selected excerpt of each piece.
  • Total time should not exceed 5 minutes

(IV) Application Procedure (5 May 2021, 11am – 1 June 2021, 3pm):

Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2021, 11am to 1 June 2021, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

Applicants who are not from MOE mainstream primary schools will be required to apply for a Registration Number (RGxxxxxxx) before applying through the DSA-Sec Portal. Please refer to MOE website at: https://go.gov.sg/nmsdsa-sec-application for more information.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.
