About Us
The Mathematics Department believes that every BPian can learn, grow and experience success. We seek to nurture confident and curious learners who appreciate the relevance of Mathematics and are able to apply their learning within and beyond the classroom.
This belief guides the design and implementation of our curriculum for Mathematics, Computer Applications (CPA), Elements of Business Skills (EBS) and Principles of Accounts (POA).
Our Curriculum
Developing Critical, Adaptive and Inventive Thinking
Our curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop critical, adaptive and inventive thinking.
Students are encouraged to explain their reasoning, examine information carefully and consider whether their answers are reasonable. They also apply what they have learnt to unfamiliar situations and adjust their approaches when necessary. Through classroom discussions, students explore different methods and learn from the ideas of others.
These experiences help students become more confident and flexible in approaching mathematical problems.
Engaging Every Learner
We recognise that students have different strengths, needs and ways of learning. Through differentiated instruction, teachers provide varied levels of support and challenge so that every student can participate meaningfully and make progress.
Students may explore concepts using multiple representations, work on tasks suited to their readiness or receive targeted feedback to help them improve. Those who require additional guidance are supported with appropriate scaffolds, while students who are ready to go further are challenged to deepen and extend their learning.
Digital tools and the Student Learning Space are used purposefully to support learning, provide timely feedback and enable students to learn at an appropriate pace. Through these learning experiences, students develop greater confidence, independence and ownership of their learning.
Strengthening Teaching and Learning
Our teachers engage actively in professional learning and collaborative lesson design. Through professional learning teams, lesson observations, classroom sharing and professional dialogue, teachers exchange effective practices and reflect on how students learn.
These collaborations allow teachers to refine their instructional approaches, explore innovative pedagogies and design richer learning experiences. Feedback from colleagues and students also informs the department’s continuous efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
Applying Learning Beyond the Classroom
We believe that every BPian should have opportunities to discover and develop their mathematical abilities beyond the formal curriculum.
Students are encouraged to participate in enrichment activities and competitions such as the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad and ICAS Mathematics. These experiences expose students to challenging and unfamiliar problems, strengthen their perseverance and provide opportunities for them to apply their knowledge creatively.
Across Mathematics, CPA, EBS and POA, authentic tasks and real-world applications also help students appreciate how classroom learning connects with everyday life, further studies and the world of work.
Through these varied experiences, we aim to nurture resilient, reflective and future-ready learners who approach challenges with confidence and use their knowledge to make thoughtful decisions.
