About Us
At Bukit Panjang Government High School, we believe that learning a Mother Tongue Language is far more than an academic requirement — it is a cornerstone of holistic education. Our curriculum is built around three enduring goals: helping students communicate fluently and confidently, deepening their appreciation of their cultural heritage and identity, and empowering them to connect meaningfully with communities across Asia and the wider world.
Across all language streams, students develop strong foundations in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, alongside the interactive skills needed to engage thoughtfully in discussion, debate, and digital spaces.
Our Language Programmes
We offer Chinese Language (CL) and Higher Chinese Language (HCL) for students across a range of abilities and aspirations. Lessons are enriched with ICT tools, literature appreciation, and opportunities to participate in speech, creative writing, and national language platforms.
Our Malay Language (ML), Higher Malay Language (HML), and Elective Malay Literature programmes nurture confident communicators with a deep appreciation for Malay literary arts.
BPGHS is also an official centre for both the Elective Programme in Malay Language for Secondary Schools, also known as EMAS and the Malay Language Elective Programme at Secondary Level (MLEP-Sec). The EMAS and MLEP-Sec programmes provide students with enriching opportunities to deepen their love for the Malay language, literature and culture. Through engaging language, cultural and literary activities, EMAS encourages students to use Malay confidently while strengthening their language proficiency. MLEP-Sec further nurtures students with a strong aptitude for Malay, developing their language and literary skills while empowering them to become effectively bilingual individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society.
Beyond the Classroom
Language learning at BPGHS comes alive through rich cultural experiences. During Mother Tongue Fortnight, students explore traditions through calligraphy, tea appreciation, culinary heritage, and martial arts such as Wushu. Speech and drama workshops, debates, and national competitions sharpen students' oracy and public speaking skills, while local and overseas immersion trips give them the chance to use their language in real-world settings.
Through this blend of rigorous language mastery and meaningful cultural engagement, our students graduate as confident, bilingual individuals ready to thrive in post-secondary education and beyond.
